The Creamery District is inviting our community to join local artist Haley Davis at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug 25th to paint her original design at the intersection of 8th and L in the Creamery District in Arcata. Everyone is invited to grab a brush and join in the fun and Haley will be on hand to guide the way.
At 4 p.m. the Night Market will start with local artists, a beer garden hosted by Sarah McKinney of Dead Reckoning, Live Music by the Pan Dulce Steel Orchestra, vendors and food. Redwood Raks is having a Fusion Partner Dance with a lesson at 7 p.m. and dancing at 8 p.m. Wrangletown Cidery www.wrangletowncidercompany.com will be pouring their famous Hard Ciders and fine wines, and Jefferson Ale House will be giving sneak peeks at their new space.
Haley Davis is a Teaching Artist who works at The Arcata Playhouse in the Artist in Schools program. She teaches Mask Making, and Shadow Puppetry to students ranging from 3rd-6th grade, and provides a level of art education that would otherwise be unavailable to her students. She also partners with the local University’s service-learning program to bring students, who are studying art education, into classrooms as her assistants. Haley believes that art education is capable of increasing empathy, innovation, and creativity in culture. As a student she worked in the campus Goudini Art Gallery, as a tutor in low-income communities and as an intern for the North Coast Arts Integration Project organizing field trips for students from a local reservation to visit the Native American Art Gallery where she worked. She also created a mural with the St. Bernard’s high school in her summer after graduation. Haley Davis is studio trained and vigorous in her art practice. She has been awarded for her talents as a painter and acknowledged as an emerging artist. Haley holds an Associate’s Degree in Fine Art from Lake Tahoe Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education from Humboldt State University.
